Hey you! Today, I want to talk to you directly. You see, I think I have come across some information that can help you live a happier life, and I’m all about sharing. So here’s the deal. The more I talk to my friends, the more I hear about how their lives are so busy, and stressful, and how they wish they could do A or B… Well, if you’re thinking the same thing, I have a question for YOU: What’s stopping you?
I want to tell you loud and clear: We make time for things we want to make time for. It’s that simple. So today I want you to get a pen and paper, and make a list of the things that make you happy (even if you feel you don’t have time for them). That list could include things such as sleeping in, calling your best friend, binge watching your favorite show, shopping, doing yoga or lifting weights, going for a walk, going to the movies, to a play, to the theater, traveling… Whatever makes you happy, write it down.
NOW, I want you to honestly look at your life, your day, and FIND THE TIME TO DO THOSE THINGS. This might mean asking for HELP. Telling your significant other you need some YOU time, asking a best friend of a family member to help you on something else. Even if you work a 9-5 job, what about all the other hours of your day? Finding time to do the little things that make you happy WILL help you live a happier life.
Some examples for you. Ever since I went to Naples, Italy, and ate the best pizza of my life, I decided one thing that makes me happy is going to Punch Pizza and having the margherita pizza. No, it’s not the same as the one from Naples, but it brings me back to Italy, and it makes me happy. So I go at least once a month.
I also go to the movies by myself at least twice a month. I love going to the West End movie theater on Tuesdays, when all movies are $5 and popcorn is free. It’s perfect and I can grab a drink at Cooper and also eat the burger sliders (my fave)! It’s simple, but makes me happy.
On a much smaller scale, cat videos make me laugh, and therefore, I watch them all the time. Eating macarons, or cupcakes, or salted caramel ice cream will always put me in a fantastic mood, and so I go out of my way to find those things. On a much bigger scale, traveling blows my mind. I love planning, researching, even packing! So I try to travel as much as I possibly can. In the last 3 years I’ve travelled the world and I won’t stop.
Now that I’ve talked your ear off, get that list, share with those you love and ask them to help you make time to do the things that make you happy. Even if it’s once a month, do ONE thing at least. Big, or small, make time to be happy!
