Engagement photos are a big deal, and although I’ve always thought so, after going through it myself, I realized they are even more important, and stressful, than I thought before. I created an amazing guide to share with my clients with lots of tips to make the whole process more enjoyable! But my biggest tip for your engagement session is finding a photographer who will make you feel comfortable in front of the camera. And that’s a very big task! When choosing your wedding/engagement photographer, look at their online portfolio carefully to make sure their style is what you are looking for in your own images. Things to consider:
1. Formality of photos: Is the photographer’s style more natural and candid, or more posed/looking at the camera?
2. Editing Style: When looking at the online portfolio, are images more light and airy or dark and moody? Does the photographer like to use a flash or not? Do you like the way the photos look overall?
3. Personality: When chatted with the photographer in person or via phone, did you feel like it was someone you could be friends with? Have a drink with?
And truly try to relax and enjoy the moment. Talk to each other during the session, and treat it as a date night where you’re having fun, and someone just happens to be along taking photos. Don’t worry about the people around you, and just be as “in love” as you can possibly be!
Cheers!
